Quick Like A Duck
I remind myself often, “VERY few things are really urgent.”
Our lower brains are in a rush. We need to get this done. We need to reach that goal. We need to reach the destination. We need to placate this little person (or big person) immediately.
How many times a day do you hear yourself say, “Hurry up!” or like we say in our family, “Quick like a duck!”?
Why? Why do we need to be quick? Why should we not be late?
In our society, we really value speed. Do you hear yourself praising your child for doing something quick? I do!
We might really be surprised if we heard someone say, “Wow! You did that so slowly. Good job!”
We have to be conscious about slowing down. Not just slowing down, but letting things be slow. Not just letting things be slow, but giving space for being present without rushing to the next thing.
“But I’ll never get everything done!” I hear you say, along with my brain.
My question is, does it even matter if we get everything done if we’re stressed and miserable?
Come along with me this week and a few times a day let’s remind ourselves, “I can’t rush my way to peace.” Send me a message to let me know how it goes.
